Leveraging bibliometric data to understand academic impact

Hey NetPals, did you miss the netPLACE seminar with Giacomo Livan from UCL? He presented an intriguing talk titled  'Leveraging bibliometric data to understand academic impact', exploring what factors may boost and enhance the early stages of an academic career

He explained how this process develops, and emphasized the key events that may have career-altering consequences and sustained impact for the researcher, so the topic of coauthoring papers with prominent scientists or collaborating with scientists from different disciplines.

In the second part of the talk, the discussion shifted to how improving the fairness of academic policymaking, sharing ideas on how the coauthorship of papers from scientists in different stages of their careers could positively affect early-stage researchers.

Despite the effort to find a solution, the question of the influence of having a good mentor during a PhD still needs to be answered, requiring further research to disentangle the intricate relationship between causes and effects involving all parties.
